Lemuel Stone was a member of the Hugh Stone family as found in a volume published by Rev. Richard C. Stone of Missouri, "Genealogy of the Stone Family Originating in Rhode Island," Knowles, Anthony and Company of Providence, RI: 1866. Lemuel (1781-1873) was born in R.I. to James Stone and Rebecca Sheldon. He married Anna Colvin first, and late in life, Sally Mills.
